Simona Castricum

Simona Castricum is a singer, songwriter, producer and DJ from Melbourne, Australia.

She has stated that her biographical song writing is influenced by her life as a transgendered woman, both openly and closeted. Musically, she has said that her influences have come from interactions between electronic and shoegaze genres and cites bands like Depeche Mode, New Order, My Bloody Valentine, Curve (band) and both Detroit techno and Belgian New Beat genres as influences.

As a transgendered woman, Simona Castricum advocates for gender diverse musicians and has written articles for Vice Magazine and Thump on visibility and access for transgendered performers.

Live, Harry Hughes of The Music, says she, "commands... attention with her pseudo-militaristic movements and bold style".

She has previously recorded under the names Simona Kapitolina and (Fluorescent ) and is a member of synth rock outfit (Ana Nicole ). Simona was also the founder of the influential Melbourne record label Girls Who Smoke Poke and club night The Shock of The New.
